How I Started Collecting Toy Soldiers

   Gary graduated from the University of Oregon in 1957 and served for 36 years in traffic and transportation for Crown Zellerbach/James River/Waterway Terminals/Western Transportation companies where he got an appreciation for the carriers he dealt with.  This has led to a liking for the different china patterns that those carriers used in their operations.  He even was in charge of a mess hall during his military days.  As Gary says, "Even though I had a mess hall under my command, I can't remember what items we used, nor even in the Officer's Clubs that I had the fortune to eat in.  I never guessed that I would come to like dishes, but that sure has happened."
